Plant Information
Plant Care
Mountain Sandwort is remarkably low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established. Regular watering is needed during the first growing season to develop a strong root system. Trim back after flowering to maintain shape and prevent self-seeding. This plant rarely needs fertilizing and actually performs better in lean soil.
Planting Instructions
Plant Mountain Sandwort in spring or early fall, spacing plants 12-18 inches apart. Dig holes twice the width of the root ball and at the same depth. Place plant at the same level it was growing in the container, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly. Add a thin layer of gravel mulch around the plant to help maintain soil moisture and prevent crown rot.
For optimal growth, ensure good air circulation and avoid planting in areas where water collects. While established plants are drought-tolerant, consistent moisture during the first few months is crucial for proper root development. In rock gardens, plant between stones where roots can stay cool and find purchase in soil pockets.
