Plant Overview
The Jacquemontii Birch, also known as the Himalayan White Birch, is a stunning ornamental tree prized for its brilliant white bark and graceful form. This single-stem variety creates a striking focal point in any landscape, offering year-round interest with its exfoliating bark that becomes increasingly whiter with age. The tree’s delicate foliage emerges bright green in spring, providing a beautiful contrast against the white trunk before turning golden yellow in fall.
Plant Information
Plant Care
Jacquemontii Birch trees require regular watering during the establishment period, typically the first two growing seasons. Once established, they are relatively low-maintenance but benefit from consistent moisture. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, keeping mulch away from the trunk. Prune in late summer or early fall to remove dead, damaged, or crossing branches. Monitor for birch borer and leaf miners, treating promptly if detected.
Planting Instructions
Plant your Jacquemontii Birch in spring or fall for optimal results. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and at the same depth. Remove the container and gently loosen the roots. Position the tree in the hole, ensuring it’s straight and at the same level it was growing in the container. Backfill with original soil, tamping down gently to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly and apply a 2-3 inch layer of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk.
