Plant Care

Bonfire Spurge is remarkably low-maintenance and drought-tolerant once established. The plant requires minimal attention throughout the growing season, making it perfect for busy gardeners. Remove spent flower stems to maintain a tidy appearance and prevent self-seeding. In late fall, cut back the foliage to ground level to promote healthy spring growth.

Note that all parts of the plant contain a milky sap that can cause skin irritation, so wearing gloves during maintenance is recommended. The plant is deer and rabbit resistant, adding to its appeal for gardens in urban and suburban areas.

Planting Instructions

Plant Bonfire Spurge in spring or early fall for best results. Choose a location with well-draining soil and adequate sunlight. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and at the same depth. Remove the plant from its container and gently loosen the roots. Place the plant in the hole, ensuring it sits at the same level as it did in the container.

Backfill with soil, firming gently to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting and maintain consistent moisture until established. Space plants 18-24 inches apart to allow for mature growth. Apply a layer of mulch around the plant, keeping it away from the crown to prevent rot.
